Before You Hire a Builder, Make Sure You Are Asking the Right Questions

How do you know which remodeling company is the right one for your project? You could start by thinking of all the gripes friends and family have shared with you about their projects, or you could ask candidates a list of questions.

Before you contact a company, you’ll probably look at some reviews and scroll through some project photos. If you like what you see, you’ll want to ask a few questions when you talk to the company, such as:

  • Are you licensed? If so, may I see your license?
  • Will you give me three references I can speak with?
  • How many jobs will my project supervisor work on besides mine?
  • What percentage of your projects run over their projected schedule?
  • What kind of warranty do you offer customers?
  • Do you ever come back after the project is completed?
  • How can I expect you to communicate with me? Is it hard to get a hold of my supervisor?

Once you’ve gotten the answers, consider what matters most to you. Most homeowners want this process to be as quick and painless as possible. That’s only possible if you have someone who is taking responsibility for staying on top of the project and knocking things off the “to do” list. As the home owner, you won’t want to be chasing down subcontractors or wondering where or when workers are going to show up in your home.

At MARK IV Builders, we keep a supervisor on site every day until you sign off that your project is complete. We think this matters and that you can’t get quality results if you’re not there to see them happen. We also know our customers value having as little disruption as possible, so we post a project schedule on site for you to see and keep track of our progress and so you can anticipate what’s coming next.

Want to see some of our finished projects? Take a look through our portfolios for ideas you can use, then contact MARK IV Builders for an estimate and a timeline. We look forward to helping you make your dream home a reality.
